Zachary Babcock is definitely an interesting dude, and he’s got a supercharged, truth bomb podcast called Underdog Empowerment. He’s got a crazy history which you’ll hear about, where he had an addictive personality in his younger years which landed him in trouble, then took that personality and channeled it into a good thing for his business. We also dive into how he has grown his podcast show super fast and talk about how he’s mapped out 5-6 systems, making a killing with getting rankings, subscribers, and guests onto his shows. You’ll also get the backstory as well as some mindset stuff as to what it's like to go from being in prison to being a respected entrepreneur.

This episode is not only fascinating, it’s very tactical as well. He’s a lot of fun to talk to, and he’s definitely an open book and shares the various scripts he uses when he reaches out to these people. After you’ve listened, be sure to check out the shows we did with Tyrone Shum and Joe Sanok for more insight and tactics to get your own podcast on an accelerated track.

Before, in one week’s worth of time no one was giving me a chance, and now I’m interviewing Billy Gene and it’s just been a crazy, spiral of upwards momentum ever since.” - Zachary Babcock

  • How Zachary is helping out ex-convicts to lead a better life

We have a special show today that we planned with two of our business partners - Roland Frasier & Oliver Schmalholz. We are talking about a new endeavor that we are involved in and thought it would be really cool to share, so our listeners can hear what we’ve been up to.  It’s a new entity called Unicorn Equity, and we are working with Roland and Oliver in this new company, who are two of the most brilliant minds we know.

Roland is a dealmaker extraordinaire, and he’s been doing all these online challenges where people are learning about all the different interesting deal structures he's doing to buy and sell businesses and to get a majority stakeholder ownership of the businesses so he can direct it.

Then we have Oliver on the call, who is also a dealmaker plus a tech wizard and has figured out how how to build out this platform. Unicorn Equity gives us the ability to build a long term portfolio of asset companies, that we really like, as affiliate marketers. We don’t have to change anything, we are just earning into a company where we can pick and choose how much cash or how much equity we want to earn per sale. On the other hand, there are SAAS founders and software companies who are looking for marketing help and they’re willing to invest a portion of equity in their ownership of their company in exchange for that with that ownership being deferred into the future.

You’re also going to hear about some creative deals that both Roland and Oliver have done as well as an epic challenge that Roland was working on that has gone really well. Plus you’ll hear an update as to what’s ahead for the next Traffic & Conversion Summit. We know you’ll enjoy our previous show with Roland too, where we discussed - ‘How To Scale Your Business By Acquiring Other Businesses’ and ‘A Step-By-Step System to Decide Which Opportunities To Pursue’.

That's been a theme throughout my entrepreneurial career - to focus on subscription products, where you only have to make a sales effort once….then also leverage distribution channels on a success fee basis, only.” - Oliver Schmalholz

I drove million roughly $1,300,000 in revenue to that over a six-day period as an affiliate and as the number one affiliate broke records and made several hundred thousand dollars and immediately realized that all I had done was built someone else's brand. While I liked getting the commission money it didn't make sense as a business model for me because I wanted to build wealth and the affiliate model as it is currently engineered is really a short term model.” - Roland Frasier

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What to expect at the next Traffic & Conversion Summit later in the year
  • How the four of us got together to bring this to fruition
  • Working with fellow affiliates for the best interest of all, not as competitors
  • Previous deals with Roland and Oliver have worked on
  • Requirements for SAAS companies with Unicorn
  • Diversifying your risk for long term growth and revenue
  • All the benefits of working with high performing marketers that business may have not yet realized
  • Different ways of earning cash as an affiliate with this model
  • How you can be an affiliate too, even if you’ve never sold anything before

This episode is a real gift to our audience and after listening, you’ll totally get it! Literally. John Ruhlin, from Giftology, is on the show today and he is absolutely amazing when it comes to gifting with the right amount of thoughtfulness and meaning. There’s been a paradigm shift in marketing recently, so the idea of gift-giving is very timely and John has a knack for staying top of mind, and growing relationships and referrals all through the art of gift-giving.

John works with some big companies and agencies and he discusses his process as to how to figure out what your intention is, what your strategy is, who to send the gift to, and what your budget should be. We go deep into how to pick the right gift, how much money to spend, what to do if you are just starting out and we also talk about how the power of gifting comes back to you as well as how to justify the cost to determine your ROR - return on relationships. We even talk about how to gift better to your spouse or significant other. At the end of the day, John wants people to show gratitude with action and not just lip service as this is something that can generate business and referrals with an impact that can last a long time. After you’ve listened, check out our shows that we recorded with Jordan Harbinger and Omari Broussard for more tips on relationship building and reaching out to the right audience for your business.

If you take care of the family in business, everything else takes care of it itself.” - John Ruhlin

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to work with your budget if you are just starting out
  • Making sure you carve out time for gift giving (pun intended)
  • How John got the attention of Jeffrey Gitomer
  • Lessons learned from your girlfriend’s father
  • How to surprise your wife or significant other with a gift that really makes an impact
  • The 80/20 rule of proper budgeting for your gift-giving
  • Why you want to avoid the “book launch” style of gifts
  • Ideas to make your gifts even more memorable so that their kids will be fighting over it for generations to come
  • And much, much more!

Today’s show was such a fascinating conversation that we already have plans to bring Will back. This is a content-packed show where we talk about how cannabis is grown, how much use is possible with this, and how Will is spearheading this entire ripple effect using the cannabis plant. He is probably the most knowledgeable person we've ever talked to on the topic of cannabis and he has a storefront and experience center with massage, acupuncture, and a terpene mood lounge where they can custom curate where the cannabinoids go in the body. They also manufacture in Nevada and have a genetics farm in Oregon where they've developed a catalog of over 500 unique strains.

Will has literally been studying this stuff for a long time and has connected with investors in Silicon Valley, in order to create an insane amount of patents for the usage of cannabis. He's working with craft beer companies, companies that make jets and batteries as well as some big companies in Canada. We also discuss the impact of farming and folks with PTSD. Will holds the patents on most of these items and he’s thinking five minutes ahead of everyone else. If you've ever been curious about what's capable with cannabis plants, how they're grown, the science behind it, and what they're actually doing in your body when you take them, then there are so many little nuggets of wisdom in this thing. We also talk about how to get rid of the high if you don’t want it anymore, almost instantly. When you are done, be sure to check out our shows with Theo Lucier and Joe Cohen for more insight into biohacking for better health and productivity.

I just had this funny intuition that they were somehow going to be important. And it turns out with cannabis, it's a very unique plant in that it’s the most diverse terpene producing plant. So you can have one that smells like citrus, another one that smells like diesel engine and another one for pine.” - Will Kleidon

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How soldiers 100 years ago carried ganja hashish candies in their pockets - on purpose
  • The benefits of flow engagement and how to hack your way into a flow state
  • Terpenes, gamma rays, and endocannabinoid system optimization (trust us - it’s fascinating!)
  • How to determine if you are more effective at producing cannabinoids naturally
  • A look at the history of oxidative stress in society over the years
  • The importance of being intimately interconnected with our ecosystem
  • When cannabis was known as a “treasure herb”
  • Take too much THC? Will has the go-to on how to get you sober in just five minutes
  • Why you definitely want to eat a restaurant with six or fewer menu items
  • How to find your sweet spot and pinpoint an effective dose each day
  • And much, much more!

If you did not already know this already, after to today’s show with Kim Krause Schwalm, you will definitely have the know-how to hire the best of the best copywriters, what to look for, how to compensate them in other ways so that you are creating a win-win partnership and how to structure deals with them. Kim has got an insane track record when it comes to copywriting and beating out a lot of the greats.

She tells us the story of all the controls that were winning back in the day and how she beat out the best winning sales letter as a junior copywriter and broke the glass ceiling when she became the first female copywriter to ever get a Boardroom control. Even if you have some copywriting experience yourself, you know it’s not that easy to get the right person for the job, especially as sometimes we think no one will write the copy as well as us, especially in our voice.

This show changed our thinking regarding hiring a copywriter, especially with the variety of ways to partner with someone who can support you over the long term. As business owners, we have enough things to do, so it makes sense and even though there’s a ton of value in learning copy yourself, it’s probably not always the smartest move to write your own copy for your own products. We will likely bring Kim back for round two, in order to dive into some deeper principles with copywriting skills. She also gave us some amazing resources as well so check it out, and once you’re done be sure to give a listen to our shows with Anik Singal and Justin Goff for more copywriting tactics.

It’s not so much you want to improve your copy, you want to improve your sales results. Whatever it is you are currently using is not getting it done.” - Kim Krause Schwalm

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What to expect when hiring a copywriter
  • Different ways you can price out the work for a win-win
  • The beauty of some old school marketing techniques
  • Why first is not always best
  • How to find someone who writes in your voice but still writes to convert
  • What to do when your copywriter falls off the grid
  • How and when to offer incentives, royalty deals, and flat fees
  • Why you may want to consider hiring a copy chief
  • And much, much more!

Today’s show with Joey Gilkey is an absolute masterclass of his process as to how he is selling mega contracts to all sorts of companies. Joey’s business deals with high ticket sales and he’s got a system, processes, and playbooks for everything in the business. At one point, there’s got to be 8-9 of his core processes that you will be able to swipe, and you’re going to learn how to be better at sales, retention, and prospecting no matter what model you are in.

There’s so much gold in this episode, that at one point we actually ran out of paper as we were taking so many notes ourselves. He also chats about why he focuses on retention, the 3 D’s for success, and how to dial in to find your ideal client. When you are done getting sales ideas from Joey, be sure to check out our shows with Steve Sims and Robert Stanley for additional ideas on how to get noticed and generating more leads for your business.

The way I look at pricing is, the bigger the problem you can solve for a very specific type of person, the more you can charge. What comes with expertise is typically money. Get really dialed in who you serve and you will see that you provide a bigger value which will give you more confidence to increase your prices.” - Joey Gilkey

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How an old lunchbox led to a huge new client
  • The hierarchy of the “Core Four” to get your agency to the highest level possible
  • How to remove yourself from the connotation of sales being sleazy
  • Tactics for prospecting your ideal clients
  • How to get over the fear of charging what you are worth
  • The Pipeline, Conversion & Economics model of growth
  • Acquisition vs. retention and why Joey focuses on the latter
  • And much, much more!

She has written a total of eight books and her latest book is called Super Attractor: Methods for Manifesting a Life Beyond Your Wildest Dreams. On today’s show, we are chatting with Chris Ross who gave us a total masterclass on sales which is pure gold. Chris is a fellow podcaster and runs TCR Consulting Agency and on today’s show, he does a deep dive into the conversations he has with his potential clients. He really gets into the mental game of sales and the mindset you need to have to approach it for success. He also shared with us his daily routine and his goal to improve each and every day by 1% as well as how to handle objections. It’s less about scripting and more about how your brain needs to be when entering into the conversation.

Chris also has a podcast, aptly name the Win-Win Effect and on that show, you will learn sales at a level you most likely have never heard before, without all the questionable methods but selling with a giving, connecting, and problem-solving intention. You will definitely have some mind shifts and a-ha moments about selling while listening in, so check this one out. And once you are done, be sure to check out the show we referred to with Chris Voss (not to be confused with our guest) and with Marshall Sylver for even more success traits for being a great salesperson.
