Hustle & Flowchart: Mastering Business & Enjoying the Journey

The Hustle & Flowchart Podcast with Joe Fier is all about how to build a business so it gives you the freedom and fuel for your life. We discuss systems, mindset tweaks, reframes, and strategies for entrepreneurs (and really anyone) to enjoy the process of being in business and having fun. This isn't for the entrepreneur looking to build a billion dollar business, rather someone who is looking to build systems that work for you, so you can make more money than you need just by working part-time. I was a chronic hustle-mode kinda guy and I want to share my experiences and mentors I've met along the way to help you reframe things so you can be the most effective as an entrepreneur. Join in conversations with Joe Fier and various mentors sharing principles and strategies to put this into action for yourself. Please enjoy and share with your friends! Listen Notes

Cue the trumpets and roll out the red carpet! Today we are bringing you a major milestone with our 300th episode! It’s a two-part show, with the first part reflecting back on how we got to where we are today. It’s a way for us to give gratitude to those that have helped us over the years. For the second part of the show, we emailed our list and asked our Facebook group if there were any questions they wanted answered. We are overwhelmed by the sheer response, and our goal is to answer as many questions as possible. So grab some popcorn and listen in as we stroll down memory lane, talk about our highlights and fears, and all the amazing people we have met on our path so far.

When you are done, be sure to check out some of the shows we mentioned, with Aaron Fletcher and Roland Frasier

He broke this fear in me of spending ad money and putting money in to get money back. I thought the way to do it was to create content, offer the content for sale but the way to get people over to where you are selling is to put out more content that shows how good you are. He showed me: sales letter, run ads to it, let’s see what happens.” - Matt Wolfe

This is not a normal way of thinking for ‘marketers’, but once you start thinking at a higher level...the world opens up to you.” - Joe Fier

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • All about our various bro-ships
  • Shout outs to so many amazing people, well known in the online space
  • Recalling our early days working together at the shutter factor while we checked out this thing called “The Warrior Forum” on breaks
  • A call out to bring back Think Tank!
  • What do bingo and a brewery have to do with how we got our start?
  • We talk about the Two Brads (not just another cool name for a band) and how our business took a turn for the better
  • Listen as we revisit our first baller moment
  • All the many times we mention Dan Ryan once again
  • Is our podcast more like a spider web or a serial killer connection?
  • Reminiscing about the $2K launches back in the Frank Kern days
  • And much, much more!

Through his training and podcast at Capitalism.com, Ryan Moran is responsible for creating more than 100 millionaires, many in 12 months or less! He is passionate about sharing the knowledge he has gained from founding, running, and investing in a number of e-commerce, and physical products businesses. On today’s show we talk about how he’s been able to be super successful in growing revenue for brands, his thoughts on how to properly build a platform to serve your audience without creating a ton of content, and his new three-step product that will get you going in the morning, get rid of afternoon brain fog, then give you the best night’s sleep ever.

Other fun things we chat about are Ryan’s book, cool documentaries that made an impact, bands to follow, how Ryan was a huge influence in our own business as well as our similar goal over the years to own a major league baseball team. If you love the idea of building a platform or are in the midst of doing so, be sure to listen to our shows with Greg Rollett as well as the show where we dive into our own methods of how we’ve built our audience and platform around our own podcast.

  • The power of the platform to get your voice heard (and not by voicing your opinion all the time)
  • And much, much more!

From being homeless to becoming a formidable strongman to switching gears to a successful business entrepreneur, you’ll really enjoy today’s show with Nic Peterson. We dive into his interesting past, how he’s been able to use his method of zero loss aversion to starting a host of various businesses, and how he’s partnered with some brilliant minds to not only better himself, but showcase his improvement to others and turning it into a well-known fitness and nutrition business.

He also talks about the gym he started where he went from actually living in the warehouse-like building to transforming it into one of the biggest, highest priced gyms in the area, catering to high-end clients. In addition to all the companies he runs which include a specific type of mastermind, he chats about how he’s able to do it all, setting priorities correctly, and how you too can zone in to reach your goals as quickly as possible. If you like some of what Nic has to say, be sure to check out these past episodes with Dan Kuschell and Marx Acosta-Rubio that really hit home about taking aligned action to become the protagonist in your own life story.

You may have priorities that are diametrically opposed. You have to pick one, then attack the other one. A lot of people want to have as much money right now as possible but they also want to have as many followers as possible, so you have to pick one. Make a bunch of money, then pay for followers or get a bunch of followers then make money from them. You’re not going to go anywhere if you are trying to maximize both at the same time.” - Nic Peterson

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How Nic went from homeless to making $100k with his mastermind

Mark Webster, one of the co-founders of Authority Hacker joins us today all the way from Scotland! This is such a cool site and one that we have referenced quite a few times around SEO. They also have some in-depth tools and reviews, and much like us, they only stand by products and promotions which they have actually used. Mark and his business partner Gael have a similar background to us, have content marketing as the core of what they do, and have been in business together for over ten years.

Mark dives into their process of getting content created for their blog, their SEO strategy, and even their partnership. They have various authority sites and we break down what their authority sites are, how one sold recently for six figures, and their training on how to create one. Their model is very scalable, and they are sharing it freely on today’s show. Once you have listened, check out our shows with Hani Mourra and Luis Diaz on how to growth hack your content marketing.

You probably can make a course. But building a few videos and calling it a course is about 10-15% of the work. All of the rest comes in with updating it, managing your customers, your community, the sales funnel, the sales cycle, getting new people in the store...all that kind of stuff.” - Mark Webster

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to develop an authority to replace your income from a day job
  • Great tips with YouTube that helped skyrocket engagement

We are stoked to have Steven Kotler on today’s show as this is one of those episodes we are super curious as to what he’s doing and wanted to dive into the massive body of work he’s done. Most of Steven’s work deals with flow and peak performance as well as converging technologies and futurism. He also does a lot of work with Peter Diamandis and has a new book co-authored with Peter, called The Future Is Faster Than You Think. This book is part of their trilogy of books and will show how you can combine these exponential technologies and systems and stack them. He also dives into why flying cars, blockchain, and other cool things like that are changing at a super rapid pace. We even talk about how this all relates to COVID as well as some actual benefits of the current situation we find ourselves in.

This is a fly on the wall conversation talking about futurism, how to get into flow, whether you can get into flow synthetically, and how to change our brain’s default from thinking negatively.  We also discuss your primary and secondary activities, which one you should focus on for fun and for work, plus Steven even told us which country is leading the charge in drone technology (and it’s not from where you think). We know you are going to love this show as much as we did, and when you are done be sure to check out our episodes with Craig Ballantyne and Dave Asprey for more discussion on living a high performing life.

When you are talking about peak performance, there’s no such thing as a hack. There’s only one thing - there’s getting your biology to work for you rather than against you.” - Steven Kotler

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Which country now leads the world in drone technology?
  • What’s cool with COVID
  • The hippie speedball recipe for a quick boost
  • Your primary and secondary activities and which you should use for work
  • Ways to tell if you are in flow
  • What the future holds for the middle class
  • The faster way that we know of, to calm yourself down
  • Everything you ever wanted to learn about rocket science in just one sentence
  • And much, much more!

Today we are chatting with David Jenyns from Systemology who not only has an awesome voice but is a lot of fun to talk to. We dive into David’s history and how he was able to take an idea from a well-known book and have a unique success story with his own similar venture. We also chat all about his methods of systemizing his own businesses over the years, the benefits of bringing systems into a business, how to approach it with a simple checklist if you are just starting out, and how to hire someone to assist you in the process, if need be.

David also gives us a great backstory of how he got the opportunity to work with a famous author, which in turn led to a boatload of other opportunities, all of which would never have happened if he did not have his own working systems in place. If the thought of becoming more efficient so you can get more time back is appealing, check out our shows where we chatted with Aaron Fletcher and Christine McDannell for more insight on systemizing your business.

All the business owners do think that systems are important, it’s just never urgent. The biggest question I always get is ‘Yes, but where do I start? Where’s the system to systemizing my business? What’s the first 10-15 types of systems that I start with?’ It’s those types of questions that I want to address” - David Jenyns

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to define the “Critical Client Flow” for your business
  • A thought process for building systems if you are considering an exit strategy
  • Why sometimes it’s okay to let others in your organization set the tone
  • What happened when David sold Australia’s most loved sporting ground
  • David’s unique twist on podcasting
  • The absolute worst person for creating systems in your business
  • How to discover your team’s yin to your yang
  • And much, much more!
