I was a chronic hustle-mode kinda guy and I want to share my experiences and mentors I've met along the way to help you reframe things so you can be the most effective as an entrepreneur. We think you are really going to like today’s show with Dan Martell. Listen in as we talk about his tough upbringing, how he taught himself how to code back in the day before YouTube, how he succeeded and failed with quite a few businesses before he was 30, and how he became the #1 YouTube channel coaching SaaS founders. He’s also got some interesting stories about his visit with Sir Richard Branson and all the things he learned about how he runs his business.

Dan has a fascinating mind and way of thinking about projects since his background as a software creator lends him to creating things that have repeatable components that lead to scaling up.  When you’re done, don’t forget we’ve also recorded some great shows with Joey Xoto and Ajay Goel, two more SaaS experts who discuss how they have built impressive companies as well.

Think bigger. People don’t plan for success, That was a big idea that I now really crystallized in life is go to the end, plan for success, work backward and make better decisions.” - Dan Martell

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How Dan is able to produce 12 months of content in just 6 days a year
  • Why we all want to become ‘love cats’
  • The biggest mistakes people make when starting out
  • The beauty of gross margins and selling a commodity
  • Using the “Buy Back Blueprint” to get more leverage and buy back your time
  • How Dan was able to create the biggest YouTube show on selling for SaaS founders
  • How being okay with uncertainty proves to be the foundation of being a great entrepreneur
  • A look behind the scenes of how Richard Branson runs his business
  • And much, much more!

Anthony Trucks was placed in the foster care system at a young age and grew up not having a good sense of his own identity. On today’s show, you’ll hear how he finally ended up in a home as the only black person in an all-white family, and how he overcame his challenges and setting some big goals which led to him being awarded a scholarship to play at the University of Oregon. From there he did some amazing things from playing in the NFL to appearing on the American Ninja Warrior TV show.

Anthony had some huge ups and downs (almost going bankrupt after opening up his own gym) and realized that success only happens when who you are to your core, your identity, aligns with your life’s vision. It’s through his own struggles and triumphs that he now coaches others to get through their own identity shift in order to create the life that they deserve. He dives into his methods and the importance of knowing your identity first, even before you work on your mindset. After you have listened, we have some great shows from our vault you should check out, including our show with Christine McDannell and Jon Margalit that deals with mindset, chatting with billionaires, and getting valuable feedback to make better business decisions.

When you put time into something, and it’s no longer something you can do, whether it’s a kid doing to college, leaving the military, someone passing away, the relationship falls apart, whatever it might be...you’ve given it all and you can’t do it anymore, it breaks you and you don’t even know who you are. I didn’t even know who I was without football.” - Anthony Trucks

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • You are the tree, not the fruit - and other wise words
  • The importance of knowing your identity
  • Shining a light on your dark moments and how one very dark period in Anthony’s life almost pushed him over the edge
  • How Anthony got onto the Ninja Warrior show and impressed the hosts
  • Matt’s reminisces of being a nervous interviewer way back in the day (hard to believe!)
  • The go-to tool to help you achieve any dream you may have
  • Doing things the H.A.R.D way to reach a whole new level of confidence
  • What do the Mighty Ducks and your journey in the shift have to do with each other?
  • And much, much more!

Alex Charfen joins us today and like many in the past, we were pleasantly surprised at the topics that came up. First, we chat about Alex’s backstory and how he was able to turn his life and business completely around after the housing crisis in 2007. He was able to take his knowledge and create a brand new business helping others get through some very difficult years, and this business gained momentum so quickly that he became a top advisor to government officials while also making it onto the Inc. 500 list a mere four years later. This is a great, timely chat about creating something helpful and important, out of a crisis such as the one we’ve dealt with this year.

We also have a great conversation about Alex’s struggles, his successes with a specific kind of therapy, the importance of being vulnerable, and how, if you find yourself judging other people or situations (which of course, we all do from time to time) the best way to turn this around to actually fix how you feel about yourself. Once you’ve listened, be sure to check our shows with Lisa Cherney and Perry Marshall where we talk about how to succeed in today’s challenging climate as well as dealing with self-sabotage.

If you're thinking maintain, you're out of the game already. The mantra in a crisis is, ‘I can grow in this crisis, I can succeed in this crisis, I can help people in this crisis, and I can make a huge impact in this crisis.” - Alex Charfen

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • The most important thing to do when the world is in crisis
  • How Alex went from being bankrupt to getting to #21 on the Inc. 500 list only 4 years later
  • The benefits of showing your vulnerable side and exposing your weaknesses
  • The three awakenings of the entrepreneurial type - do you have them?
  • A heartfelt moment with Sean Stephenson
  • The benefits of EMDR which you probably need but never even thought about
  • A simple phrase to remember when you find yourself judging a situation
  • And much, much more!

We had an amazing conversation on today’s show with Tom Sylvester, who basically had a mission to retire by the age of 35 (and he did it by age 32!). There’s a lot of talk about what goes on both in goal achievement and what happens after you achieve those goals. The first half of this conversation is all about systemizing, and how to figure out what to systemize, clearing out the bottlenecks in your business, and how to basically back yourself out of your business so that it can run without you.

In the second half of our conversation, we discuss what life is like once your business is systemized and how to deal with the new challenges that pop up once you do not need to focus on your business as much. It’s an interesting roadmap for sure, and that’s where we both got lit up, as we talked about the issues that arise about what you do with your life moving ahead. After listening, go check out our conversations with James Altucher and Austin Sams for more insight into how to dial it in to set up your life and your business on your own terms.

That was how I built everything...if I could just get the businesses and the income to exceed the expenses, I can pretty much not have to worry about working, and have everything covered.” - Tom Sylvester

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • The blessing and the curse of having a podcast
  • How to own your day so you get the most impactful things done first
  • Why meditating will actually help you get more done
  • How to do a time audit for you and your business to find out where the bottlenecks are
  • The importance of weekly reviews and acknowledging your wins
  • How to revamp your home office to get you more focused and dialed in
  • Shifting your mind state through journaling
  • Variations on gratitude practices
  • Details of The 2X Formula
  • And much, much more!

You have heard it a million times before - everyone has a book in them, and we are sure you do as well. Laura Gale, author, and fellow podcaster joins us today to talk all about the step by step method she uses to guide people to finally getting that book published. Whether you are just starting out with a minimal audience or you are an established public authority, there are ways for anyone to get their story out there.

You just want to make sure you start the right way and Laura gives us some great advice in regards to what to do before you start, whether working with a ghostwriter is right for you (yes, it probably is), and what really drives reader engagement. After that, there’s the testing process to find just the right cover that speaks to your audience and of course, the marketing so that you will be found and read. You’ll also hear some great ways to get your book discovered that do not take the traditional online advertising route.

We know once you’ve listened you are going to be stoked about finally getting that book published, and you will want to listen to our previous shows with Rob Kosberg who discussed how he is able to ghostwriters effectively, and Chandler Bolt who tells us how to go from no book to selling your book in 90 days.

People forget to take it offline, and still there’s a whole world of media that has nothing to do with the internet. A lot of those platforms are really starved because people have forgotten about them.” - Laura Gale

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What makes a compelling story
  • The one thing you need to have dialed in before you even consider starting your book
  • Do self-published books ever make it to the New York Times bestseller list?
  • Different ways to test your cover, title, and other content before you publish
  • Associated costs with hiring a publishing company
  • Getting your book past the gatekeepers
  • Working with the likes of J.K. Rowling, Nelson Mandela & Tina Fey
  • How to determine whether to hire a ghostwriter or not
  • And much, much more!

On today’s show, this is going to be an epic master class with two of the most brilliant minds we know, Jay Abraham and Rich Schefren. Jay and Rich go way back, having known each other for close to twenty years. In today’s economy, this will be the most valuable information that any business owner can take and actually use, to make money and turn things.

Both Rich and Jay give their insights around a host of opportunities in today’s world to help people and businesses leverage their existing assets in such a way that will benefit them and you as the deal maker. There are also some great examples of folks who knew where to look and find opportunities that others were missing and basically created arbitrage situations that led to passive income for years to come. We know your mind will be reeling with possibilities after listening, and when you are done you will want to listen to our previous episodes where we chatted with Dana Robinson and Markian Sich on how they are able to create passive income as well with real estate investing and online businesses.

This is the time where there is so much opportunity, and the reason is there is so much opportunity is because during times of tremendous uncertainty as well as some form of recession, what happens is there are many businesses who are a lot less active than before, and that leaves a lot of their assets dormant...which makes them a lot more receptive to other ideas and possibilities. ” - Rich Schefren

“Right now there are 5 or 6 windows of screaming opportunities that are starting to close..first one if there will never be a time in the history of entrepreneurship where more business owners and professionals are open to doing deals, collaborating, joint venturing, profit partnering, letting you sell things to their audience....that’s one thing. ” - Jay Abraham

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to think like Tom Sawyer
  • How to see and seize opportunities to be the toll booth/money taker
  • Putting the Pareto principle and Venn diagrams into play
  • Examples of ways to help businesses right now which will benefit you for years to come (even if you do not have any capital to start with)
  • The real reason Jay stopped selling his courses
  • Examples of prosperity pathways and how to identify where opportunities exist
  • And much, much more!

You need someone in your corner that is watching your back, seeing everything that is happening in real-time, to identify the problems you don’t see that you can avoid and the opportunities that you don’t know about that you need to seize to be able to create your best legacy.” - Jeff Spencer

On today’s special Australian double header show, we’ve actually got two interviews from live streams we held earlier this year.  First up is James Schramko, who is a great friend and has been on the show quite a few times already. He talks about the basic foundational strategies that he uses in his business (which is also similar to our own business because we’ve modeled what he does), how he has been able to maintain great customer relationships over the years with the same membership site, and his thoughts and ideas on keys to building trust and what to do if you are just starting out.

Our second guest is Stephen Esketzis who we have modeled as well, with our affiliate blog posts. He was ClickFunnels #1 affiliate for a long time and he’s another one who we had on the show previously. Stephen has some newer updates, tools, and lots of good content marketing affiliate strategies and we also talk about developing some tools for affiliate marketing as well. We also dive into his cool method of using a quiz to create the perfect funnel for your business, and by taking a few extra steps that most marketers do not, has propelled his business by far.

Affiliate marketing is a topic that is one of the three foundational things we like to chat about, and it’s also a topic that people are looking for with examples on how to do it in their own business. James is building a platform, with a podcast, email lists, and a community, while Steven takes more of the blogging, customer journey, and SEO route. You can combine them and take pieces of each model as we did, which is what our business is about now. After you have listened, be sure to check out our shows with Larry Ludwig and Matt McWilliams for more tips on how to set your affiliate marketing goals right.

When someone already has a database and they already know what products sell, just sticking them in front of their customers on the most highly visited page on their website is a really good idea.” - James Schramko

Now more and more people are switching to writing better quality reviews and content because it’s getting more competitive and you need to improve your content game if you want to become a better affiliate. The more value you provide, you get repaid for it in the long run.” - Stephen Esketzis

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Tips if you are just starting out
  • James’ least favorite business and why he’s working his way through it currently
  • How to go above and beyond to stand out beyond the rest of affiliates
  • Why James had a Skype button on his site in the early days
  • How Stephen set up his super cool quiz funnel to get dialed in leads
  • An idea for an affiliate site that is a lot of work but will lead to great rewards
  • How Stephen basically gets tons of software for free
  • Stephen’s early days of working with ClickFunnels and earning the title of top affiliate
  • And much, much more!

Cue the trumpets and roll out the red carpet! Today we are bringing you a major milestone with our 300th episode! It’s a two-part show, with the first part reflecting back on how we got to where we are today. It’s a way for us to give gratitude to those that have helped us over the years. For the second part of the show, we emailed our list and asked our Facebook group if there were any questions they wanted answered. We are overwhelmed by the sheer response, and our goal is to answer as many questions as possible. So grab some popcorn and listen in as we stroll down memory lane, talk about our highlights and fears, and all the amazing people we have met on our path so far.

When you are done, be sure to check out some of the shows we mentioned, with Aaron Fletcher and Roland Frasier

He broke this fear in me of spending ad money and putting money in to get money back. I thought the way to do it was to create content, offer the content for sale but the way to get people over to where you are selling is to put out more content that shows how good you are. He showed me: sales letter, run ads to it, let’s see what happens.” - Matt Wolfe

This is not a normal way of thinking for ‘marketers’, but once you start thinking at a higher level...the world opens up to you.” - Joe Fier

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • All about our various bro-ships
  • Shout outs to so many amazing people, well known in the online space
  • Recalling our early days working together at the shutter factor while we checked out this thing called “The Warrior Forum” on breaks
  • A call out to bring back Think Tank!
  • What do bingo and a brewery have to do with how we got our start?
  • We talk about the Two Brads (not just another cool name for a band) and how our business took a turn for the better
  • Listen as we revisit our first baller moment
  • All the many times we mention Dan Ryan once again
  • Is our podcast more like a spider web or a serial killer connection?
  • Reminiscing about the $2K launches back in the Frank Kern days
  • And much, much more!

From being homeless to becoming a formidable strongman to switching gears to a successful business entrepreneur, you’ll really enjoy today’s show with Nic Peterson. We dive into his interesting past, how he’s been able to use his method of zero loss aversion to starting a host of various businesses, and how he’s partnered with some brilliant minds to not only better himself, but showcase his improvement to others and turning it into a well-known fitness and nutrition business.

He also talks about the gym he started where he went from actually living in the warehouse-like building to transforming it into one of the biggest, highest priced gyms in the area, catering to high-end clients. In addition to all the companies he runs which include a specific type of mastermind, he chats about how he’s able to do it all, setting priorities correctly, and how you too can zone in to reach your goals as quickly as possible. If you like some of what Nic has to say, be sure to check out these past episodes with Dan Kuschell and Marx Acosta-Rubio that really hit home about taking aligned action to become the protagonist in your own life story.

You may have priorities that are diametrically opposed. You have to pick one, then attack the other one. A lot of people want to have as much money right now as possible but they also want to have as many followers as possible, so you have to pick one. Make a bunch of money, then pay for followers or get a bunch of followers then make money from them. You’re not going to go anywhere if you are trying to maximize both at the same time.” - Nic Peterson

Mark Webster, one of the co-founders of Authority Hacker joins us today all the way from Scotland! This is such a cool site and one that we have referenced quite a few times around SEO. They also have some in-depth tools and reviews, and much like us, they only stand by products and promotions which they have actually used. Mark and his business partner Gael have a similar background to us, have content marketing as the core of what they do, and have been in business together for over ten years.

Mark dives into their process of getting content created for their blog, their SEO strategy, and even their partnership. They have various authority sites and we break down what their authority sites are, how one sold recently for six figures, and their training on how to create one. Their model is very scalable, and they are sharing it freely on today’s show. Once you have listened, check out our shows with Hani Mourra and Luis Diaz on how to growth hack your content marketing.

You probably can make a course. But building a few videos and calling it a course is about 10-15% of the work. All of the rest comes in with updating it, managing your customers, your community, the sales funnel, the sales cycle, getting new people in the store...all that kind of stuff.” - Mark Webster

We are stoked to have Steven Kotler on today’s show as this is one of those episodes we are super curious as to what he’s doing and wanted to dive into the massive body of work he’s done. Most of Steven’s work deals with flow and peak performance as well as converging technologies and futurism. He also does a lot of work with Peter Diamandis and has a new book co-authored with Peter, called The Future Is Faster Than You Think. This book is part of their trilogy of books and will show how you can combine these exponential technologies and systems and stack them. He also dives into why flying cars, blockchain, and other cool things like that are changing at a super rapid pace. We even talk about how this all relates to COVID as well as some actual benefits of the current situation we find ourselves in.

This is a fly on the wall conversation talking about futurism, how to get into flow, whether you can get into flow synthetically, and how to change our brain’s default from thinking negatively.  We also discuss your primary and secondary activities, which one you should focus on for fun and for work, plus Steven even told us which country is leading the charge in drone technology (and it’s not from where you think). We know you are going to love this show as much as we did, and when you are done be sure to check out our episodes with Craig Ballantyne and Dave Asprey for more discussion on living a high performing life.

When you are talking about peak performance, there’s no such thing as a hack. There’s only one thing - there’s getting your biology to work for you rather than against you.” - Steven Kotler

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • Which country now leads the world in drone technology?
  • What’s cool with COVID
  • The hippie speedball recipe for a quick boost
  • Your primary and secondary activities and which you should use for work
  • Ways to tell if you are in flow
  • What the future holds for the middle class
  • The faster way that we know of, to calm yourself down
  • Everything you ever wanted to learn about rocket science in just one sentence
  • And much, much more!

Today we are chatting with David Jenyns from Systemology who not only has an awesome voice but is a lot of fun to talk to. We dive into David’s history and how he was able to take an idea from a well-known book and have a unique success story with his own similar venture. We also chat all about his methods of systemizing his own businesses over the years, the benefits of bringing systems into a business, how to approach it with a simple checklist if you are just starting out, and how to hire someone to assist you in the process, if need be.

David also gives us a great backstory of how he got the opportunity to work with a famous author, which in turn led to a boatload of other opportunities, all of which would never have happened if he did not have his own working systems in place. If the thought of becoming more efficient so you can get more time back is appealing, check out our shows where we chatted with Aaron Fletcher and Christine McDannell for more insight on systemizing your business.

All the business owners do think that systems are important, it’s just never urgent. The biggest question I always get is ‘Yes, but where do I start? Where’s the system to systemizing my business? What’s the first 10-15 types of systems that I start with?’ It’s those types of questions that I want to address” - David Jenyns

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to define the “Critical Client Flow” for your business
  • A thought process for building systems if you are considering an exit strategy
  • Why sometimes it’s okay to let others in your organization set the tone
  • What happened when David sold Australia’s most loved sporting ground
  • David’s unique twist on podcasting
  • The absolute worst person for creating systems in your business
  • How to discover your team’s yin to your yang
  • And much, much more!

We have a special show today that we planned with two of our business partners - Roland Frasier & Oliver Schmalholz. We are talking about a new endeavor that we are involved in and thought it would be really cool to share, so our listeners can hear what we’ve been up to.  It’s a new entity called Unicorn Equity, and we are working with Roland and Oliver in this new company, who are two of the most brilliant minds we know.

Roland is a dealmaker extraordinaire, and he’s been doing all these online challenges where people are learning about all the different interesting deal structures he's doing to buy and sell businesses and to get a majority stakeholder ownership of the businesses so he can direct it.

Then we have Oliver on the call, who is also a dealmaker plus a tech wizard and has figured out how how to build out this platform. Unicorn Equity gives us the ability to build a long term portfolio of asset companies, that we really like, as affiliate marketers. We don’t have to change anything, we are just earning into a company where we can pick and choose how much cash or how much equity we want to earn per sale. On the other hand, there are SAAS founders and software companies who are looking for marketing help and they’re willing to invest a portion of equity in their ownership of their company in exchange for that with that ownership being deferred into the future.

You’re also going to hear about some creative deals that both Roland and Oliver have done as well as an epic challenge that Roland was working on that has gone really well. Plus you’ll hear an update as to what’s ahead for the next Traffic & Conversion Summit. We know you’ll enjoy our previous show with Roland too, where we discussed - ‘How To Scale Your Business By Acquiring Other Businesses’ and ‘A Step-By-Step System to Decide Which Opportunities To Pursue’.

That's been a theme throughout my entrepreneurial career - to focus on subscription products, where you only have to make a sales effort once….then also leverage distribution channels on a success fee basis, only.” - Oliver Schmalholz

I drove million roughly $1,300,000 in revenue to that over a six-day period as an affiliate and as the number one affiliate broke records and made several hundred thousand dollars and immediately realized that all I had done was built someone else's brand. While I liked getting the commission money it didn't make sense as a business model for me because I wanted to build wealth and the affiliate model as it is currently engineered is really a short term model.” - Roland Frasier

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What to expect at the next Traffic & Conversion Summit later in the year
  • How the four of us got together to bring this to fruition
  • Working with fellow affiliates for the best interest of all, not as competitors
  • Previous deals with Roland and Oliver have worked on
  • Requirements for SAAS companies with Unicorn
  • Diversifying your risk for long term growth and revenue
  • All the benefits of working with high performing marketers that business may have not yet realized
  • Different ways of earning cash as an affiliate with this model
  • How you can be an affiliate too, even if you’ve never sold anything before

This episode is a real gift to our audience and after listening, you’ll totally get it! Literally. John Ruhlin, from Giftology, is on the show today and he is absolutely amazing when it comes to gifting with the right amount of thoughtfulness and meaning. There’s been a paradigm shift in marketing recently, so the idea of gift-giving is very timely and John has a knack for staying top of mind, and growing relationships and referrals all through the art of gift-giving.

John works with some big companies and agencies and he discusses his process as to how to figure out what your intention is, what your strategy is, who to send the gift to, and what your budget should be. We go deep into how to pick the right gift, how much money to spend, what to do if you are just starting out and we also talk about how the power of gifting comes back to you as well as how to justify the cost to determine your ROR - return on relationships. We even talk about how to gift better to your spouse or significant other. At the end of the day, John wants people to show gratitude with action and not just lip service as this is something that can generate business and referrals with an impact that can last a long time. After you’ve listened, check out our shows that we recorded with Jordan Harbinger and Omari Broussard for more tips on relationship building and reaching out to the right audience for your business.

If you take care of the family in business, everything else takes care of it itself.” - John Ruhlin

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How to work with your budget if you are just starting out
  • Making sure you carve out time for gift giving (pun intended)
  • How John got the attention of Jeffrey Gitomer
  • Lessons learned from your girlfriend’s father
  • How to surprise your wife or significant other with a gift that really makes an impact

Today’s show was such a fascinating conversation that we already have plans to bring Will back. This is a content-packed show where we talk about how cannabis is grown, how much use is possible with this, and how Will is spearheading this entire ripple effect using the cannabis plant. He is probably the most knowledgeable person we've ever talked to on the topic of cannabis and he has a storefront and experience center with massage, acupuncture, and a terpene mood lounge where they can custom curate where the cannabinoids go in the body. They also manufacture in Nevada and have a genetics farm in Oregon where they've developed a catalog of over 500 unique strains.

Will has literally been studying this stuff for a long time and has connected with investors in Silicon Valley, in order to create an insane amount of patents for the usage of cannabis. He's working with craft beer companies, companies that make jets and batteries as well as some big companies in Canada. We also discuss the impact of farming and folks with PTSD. Will holds the patents on most of these items and he’s thinking five minutes ahead of everyone else. If you've ever been curious about what's capable with cannabis plants, how they're grown, the science behind it, and what they're actually doing in your body when you take them, then there are so many little nuggets of wisdom in this thing. We also talk about how to get rid of the high if you don’t want it anymore, almost instantly. When you are done, be sure to check out our shows with Theo Lucier and Joe Cohen for more insight into biohacking for better health and productivity.

I just had this funny intuition that they were somehow going to be important. And it turns out with cannabis, it's a very unique plant in that it’s the most diverse terpene producing plant. So you can have one that smells like citrus, another one that smells like diesel engine and another one for pine.” - Will Kleidon

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How soldiers 100 years ago carried ganja hashish candies in their pockets - on purpose
  • The benefits of flow engagement and how to hack your way into a flow state
  • Terpenes, gamma rays, and endocannabinoid system optimization (trust us - it’s fascinating!)
  • How to determine if you are more effective at producing cannabinoids naturally
  • A look at the history of oxidative stress in society over the years
  • The importance of being intimately interconnected with our ecosystem
  • When cannabis was known as a “treasure herb”
  • Take too much THC? Will has the go-to on how to get you sober in just five minutes
  • Why you definitely want to eat a restaurant with six or fewer menu items
  • How to find your sweet spot and pinpoint an effective dose each day
  • And much, much more!

George Bryant joins us today, for a long awaited show and today we are talking about how to build better relationships with your customers and lists, and essentially how to make the people in your ecosystem love you and be excited to hear from you, which in turn will bring you profitable results. George has worked with and co-owned so many big brands, such as Adidas and Onit, has been a New York Times best-selling author, and is basically someone who is getting it all done and after listening to this episode you’ll understand why.

George is also the type of guy who will walk into a high powered meeting with a blue mohawk and own the room. He covers a lot of ground in this show, and there’s a boatload of information you will be happy you took in.  If this episode has you itching for more information about customer acquisition and balance between health, happiness, and making an impact on the world, be sure to check out what Josh Bartlett adds to the discussion as well as the show we mentioned with Aaron Fletcher.

The best protective business mechanism that you’ll ever have is giving everything away for free because nobody buys the information, they buy access and accountability based on the best relationship.” - George Bryant

If you did not already know this already, after to today’s show with Kim Krause Schwalm, you will definitely have the know-how to hire the best of the best copywriters, what to look for, how to compensate them in other ways so that you are creating a win-win partnership and how to structure deals with them. Kim has got an insane track record when it comes to copywriting and beating out a lot of the greats.

She tells us the story of all the controls that were winning back in the day and how she beat out the best winning sales letter as a junior copywriter and broke the glass ceiling when she became the first female copywriter to ever get a Boardroom control. Even if you have some copywriting experience yourself, you know it’s not that easy to get the right person for the job, especially as sometimes we think no one will write the copy as well as us, especially in our voice.

This show changed our thinking regarding hiring a copywriter, especially with the variety of ways to partner with someone who can support you over the long term. As business owners, we have enough things to do, so it makes sense and even though there’s a ton of value in learning copy yourself, it’s probably not always the smartest move to write your own copy for your own products. We will likely bring Kim back for round two, in order to dive into some deeper principles with copywriting skills. She also gave us some amazing resources as well so check it out, and once you’re done be sure to give a listen to our shows with Anik Singal and Justin Goff for more copywriting tactics.

It’s not so much you want to improve your copy, you want to improve your sales results. Whatever it is you are currently using is not getting it done.” - Kim Krause Schwalm

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • What to expect when hiring a copywriter
  • Different ways you can price out the work for a win-win
  • The beauty of some old school marketing techniques
  • Why first is not always best
  • How to find someone who writes in your voice but still writes to convert
  • What to do when your copywriter falls off the grid
  • How and when to offer incentives, royalty deals, and flat fees
  • Why you may want to consider hiring a copy chief
  • And much, much more!

Today’s show with Joey Gilkey is an absolute masterclass of his process as to how he is selling mega contracts to all sorts of companies. Joey’s business deals with high ticket sales and he’s got a system, processes, and playbooks for everything in the business. At one point, there’s got to be 8-9 of his core processes that you will be able to swipe, and you’re going to learn how to be better at sales, retention, and prospecting no matter what model you are in.

There’s so much gold in this episode, that at one point we actually ran out of paper as we were taking so many notes ourselves. He also chats about why he focuses on retention, the 3 D’s for success, and how to dial in to find your ideal client. When you are done getting sales ideas from Joey, be sure to check out our shows with Steve Sims and Robert Stanley for additional ideas on how to get noticed and generating more leads for your business.

The way I look at pricing is, the bigger the problem you can solve for a very specific type of person, the more you can charge. What comes with expertise is typically money. Get really dialed in who you serve and you will see that you provide a bigger value which will give you more confidence to increase your prices.” - Joey Gilkey

Some Topics We Discussed Include:

  • How an old lunchbox led to a huge new client
  • The hierarchy of the “Core Four” to get your agency to the highest level possible
  • How to remove yourself from the connotation of sales being sleazy
  • Tactics for prospecting your ideal clients
  • How to get over the fear of charging what you are worth
  • The Pipeline, Conversion & Economics model of growth
  • Acquisition vs. retention and why Joey focuses on the latter
  • And much, much more!
